Don't Take Risks: Keep Your Personal Data Safe While on Vacation!

In this beautiful weather, the first thing that comes to mind is our vacation plan. This means sun, sea and sand! When making a vacation plan, we prepare a list of what we will take with us; clothes, cosmetics, books, swimsuit and of course sunscreen! While the biggest concern for many of you may be protecting your body from the sun, how about prioritizing protecting your data first?

Vacation season is the hottest time of the year. While you are on vacation during the summer, Tekniknokta Data Recovery our laboratory experiences the busiest period of the year. This means that the most popular time for people to experience data loss is the summer season!

The main causes of data loss are divided into two categories: heat and water.

So, if you're going on vacation, what can you do to keep your data safe?

Vacations can seem very fun, but there are many dangers waiting for our electronic devices:

Mobile Phone Data Recovery

Water

The main enemy of electronic devices is water. Especially notebooks, cameras, mobile phones and tablets that fall into salt water and the sea. Tekniknokta engineers apply a special procedure for these liquid contact devices that come in.

If you have a device that has been exposed to liquid contact, let's take a look at what you need to do before consulting us:

  • Don't plug it in/ If it's charging, remove it immediately
  • Don't try to open it, leave the device closed
  • If possible, remove the battery and store it in a dry/moisture-free environment
  • Never put the device in the oven (sounds silly but people try this!)
  • Don't leave it in rice, it never works!
  • Don't try to dry it with a hair dryer/drying machine
  • If it has been exposed to salt water, don't put it in fresh water
  • Don't leave it in the sun – This can cause the battery to swell
Mobile Phone Sand

Sand

The number two enemy of electronic devices is sand. Wet sand can easily get into a smartphone and affect important parts (for example, USB charging socket). Wiping small sand particles from the smartphone screen can cause physical damage by leaving fine scratches. If you need to take your phone or tablet with you, store it safely.

Sunscreen

Sunscreen lotions for burns can be very beneficial for the skin, but unfortunately the same is not good for your electronic device. Like wet sand, creams can also cause permanent damage by affecting important parts.

Sugary and Alcoholic Beverages

Sugary and alcoholic liquids, which we see as more dangerous than water, not only cause serious liquid damage to your electronic device, but the sugar in the drink can also crystallize and cause a short circuit.

Theft

Unfortunately, no matter how popular the area you are in, thieves can be everywhere. While you enjoy the sea, you may not be able to find your bag where you left it.

Remember: it is not possible to recover data from stolen media.:(

How can you protect your data on vacation?

First of all, don't forget to take a charger and power bank. If you forget your charger and want to buy a new one while on vacation, only buy an original charger. Cheap/fake chargers can cause fire or explosion in some devices, and as a result, you can say goodbye to your data.

Second, don't forget to back up! Make sure automatic backup is enabled on your smartphone or tablet and copy your most valuable data to the cloud or an external hard disk. If you have a digital camera, also check the memory card you will use. If there are photos on it, copy them to your backup area and make sure you also have a backup memory card with you.

Third, don't forget to physically protect your electronic devices. Make sure your smartphone has a screen protector, you can even cover it with a waterproof case. Carry your digital camera in an appropriate protective case. Using a waterproof bag can be a good idea if you're planning a canoe/boat trip or a vacation where you'll come into contact with water.

Finally, if you lose or have your smartphone stolen while on vacation, make sure geolocation is enabled. This service is available for both iOS and Android devices and allows you not only to find your device, but also to remotely delete your data.
